This is going to be very exiting! I’ll strap in and enjoy the ride!

A bit puzzle though by the strict statement on limits to “diversity of context in solution usage.” Much of the evolution of AirBnB (starting with airbeds, after all) looks to be driven by precisely that diversity of solution usage, wouldn’t you say?

In any case, eagerly awaiting the next installments 👊

Good question. Diversity of context is enabled through complements in the case of marketplaces but the core solution (the marketplace itself) is vertically integrated and not amenable to contextualization. In a building blocks approach, a core set of building blocks (as components) could be used to restructure the workings of the marketplace itself towards diverse contexts (e.g. business travel, long-term vacation rental, large group bookings, event bookings etc), not just the types of complements available.

Very clear, thank you!

Would I pushing things to state that the building blocks model is to unlock the behavior (somewhat) observable even in vertically-closed marketplaces? Like, for instance, AirBnB’s signup form being appropriated for listing the very first experience/tour?

In any case, thank you for sharing this with all 🙏
